GUIDING / TUITION / DAYS OUT 4 products

I guess you could say that being an angling guide has been a part of my life now for the last seventeen years or so. During that time I have been responsible in some part at least for a lot of divorces!
From 1993 until 2000, I ran a successful angling holiday enterprise called "Carptrek", which helped to pioneer carp fishing trips to the continent, mainly France and Holland. Fishing in France for the huge carp that lived there was still in it's infancy, and I was responsible for many angler's first fishing trips to foreign shores.
During that period, many of my customers achieved new personal bests with fish of a size that they had previously only dreamed of. Not only that, they also learned many valuable lessons from a bloke who knew what he was doing, and cared about it enough to want to try and teach others what they were capable of. The things that they learned stood them in good stead whenever and wherever they subsequently went fishing.
I made many friends in my carp fishing career, and some of my old customers still keep in touch whenever they feel like a chat, such were the bonds that were made over the years.
I am fully experienced in most modes of angling, but I still feel the need to learn on a regular basis in order not to stagnate in my own angling. It is this never-ending thirst for knowledge and experience that drives me as an angler, as I can get bored quite easily if things "aren't happening".
During a recent conversation with one of my old Carptrek buddies, my friend told me I was in his "top three anglers" who he had ever fished with. This was praise indeed, and I felt very honoured that this was the case, as my friend has fished with some of the best anglers, and on some of the best waters in the land. When I enquired as to why I made the list, he simply replied "because you never stop trying, no matter what". This is a trait that I was brought up with when I first learned to fish competitively in matches. I learned then that a result can come right at the end of the day when everyone else has given up and gone home! I never give up until I think all hope is lost!
I prefer fishing with a fly rod these days, and pike have become my number one quarry once again, after long periods spent chasing other species and personal bests. I have now virtually given up trying to break any records, I now prefer to fish just for the hell of it!
I have recently taken up the sport of float-tubing, and I am looking forward to re-visiting some old haunts wearing flippers!
If you feel like there is something missing in your fishing, or you simply have a thirst for some real, hard-won advice that might take you years to learn on your own, think about taking a trip with me into my world. Things might seem a little different afterwards!
