Flies for Pike fly fishing.
I designed this range of flies to represent as closely as possible the most prevalent and numerous species of food forms available to pike in Britain, Ireland, Europe and Scandinavia. I believe that in any given water, wherever it may be, there will be one or more prey fish available for pike to eat that is more numerous than any other in that water. Theroretically, that means that the pike population of that water will eat more of that species than any of the others that inhabit that water.
It stands to my mind that if we tie our flies to look as close to the real thing as possible then we stand more chance of getting a take. I think pike are more likely to attack through recognition rather than by pure aggression alone. Since I have been concentrating on fishing in this manner, my results have improved dramatically. I now expect to catch when I go out fishing, rather than hope. I have just fished with flies for pike through the coldest winter for years and have had consistent good results, and on the two occasions when I fished alongside a deadbait rod the fly won 1-0 both times. Maybe that was just down to luck, but I enjoyed the fly fishing better! Try it for yourself, you might just be surprised, show them something that looks like a real fish next time you go. After all , it's second only to livebaiting!
