This pattern is just a classic in the making, Scalesey comes up trumps! I gave Dave a big pile of fluff and told him to go away and produce a good fly which he promptly did, and then went and banged out a whacker just to prove it works! A big fly with a large profile, it is tied using a main wing of Piketrek Busby Black fake bucktail which provides lots of movement and silhouette in the water. Add the big Scarlet U.V. "rooster-comb" front hackle and a touch of gold flash, combined with a gold Fishgill and a big Silver Holographic eye and we have the complete fly - a proper "mester's" pattern! Tied on Dave's favourite longshank Aberdeen hook in 4/0 and with a resin-coated head to maximise the fly's tantalising action on the retreive.
